Smethwick Local History Society

This society was formed in 1984 and is a registered charity. Our aim is to bring to people's attention the history which surrounds them and encourage the research, recording and preserving of many different aspects of our local heritage. We hold regular monthly meetings for which a varied programme is produced. Some of our members carry out research and produce publications which are sold to raise funds for the society.

We are one of the oldest and most active local history societies in the region and are members of other local societies, such as the Birmingham and District Local History Society and the Black Country Society. We also work closely with Smethwick Heritage Centre, Warley Woods Community Trust, the Lightwoods House Restoration Project and also with Sandwell MBC on matters of public interest.
